Discountbox started as the major project of Hector Simpson and Peter Wilkinson (that would be us), students at Southampton Solent University and turned into something a lot more serious. We know how difficult it is for a student to deal with the pressures of university, so we wanted to make it a little bit easier on those of us that just aren't very good at managing their money (we're guessing it's most of us, really).
In 2008 Hector and Pete created the pseudo-company ironic inc. Discountbox is the first project of the partnership and you can expect many more to follow.
You know that feeling of having an empty pocket? We get that too. The feeling of not being able to buy the latest piece of kit that's just hit the shelves. The feeling of having no money left.
We know that feeling because we experience it everyday, we're students too.
But we've had enough of that feeling and that's why we've created discountbox, a huge menagerie of discounts for people like us, or to put it another way, discounts for students.
Oh sure, there may be people out there that have tried to do this before, but they've just not got it right. They make you buy one of their plastic, real world cards or sign up to their website before they even let you take a look at what goodies await you out there. We don't do any of that here at discountbox, we've created a green and pleasant land where the discounts are free-range and you're free to feed our database with as much discounty goodness as you wish.

With a strong and healthy database full of wonderful, scrumptious student discounts we hope that you'll be coming back on a regular basis too.
Of course, we don't expect you to do all the work, so in addition to already scouring the depths of the internet and the local high streets, we shall be regularly updating discountbox with all the latest and greatest discounts we can find.
Although, believe it or not, we do have a road-map for the expansion of discountbox. We're planning on launching the site, with proper poster-based promotion and all the trimmings in early 2008. We'll also be working towards adding in more local and small business student discounts, which will be easily found by simply searching for the town that they're located in.
Lastly, and by no means least, we will be launching a deeper and more integral social system upon the site. Although we currently have our delicious forums and the ability for our visitors to submit discounts, we want to create a feeling of community. We're all in the same position and we feel it's important to get in touch, to reach out as it were, to your neighbour and give them a little e-hug. What does this all mean? Well, we'll be implementing an extensive user profile page, where you can add and display discounts you've submitted and manage a friends list.

We're pretty small right now, but one day we're gonna be massive. We're looking for clever and exciteable student types to get involved. Sound like you?
